Rules & FAQ

Please read through the rules before participating in a Devs That Jam 36 hour challenge, or before engaging with our community.

General Rules:

  1. Respect Everybody. We're all here to enjoy being creative and participating in jams, so let us make this a safe environment for everyone. No rude comments on submission posts, be kind.

  2. Discrimination of any kind is not tolerated. We have many participants of different cultures and identifications. Let us make sure we treat everybody equally.

  3. No Spam. Do not spam the theme suggestion form, submission comments, or voting forms. Discord Spam rules are listed on the server.

  4. No NSFW content. Keep submissions clean and PG. Graphic content must be labelled on your submission page.

  5. Keep DTJ safe. If you spot anything suspicious, or are experiencing/witnessing any sort of harassment during the gam, or  within this the DTJ server, please let us know [devsthatjam@gmail.com].

Prize-winning Rules:

  1. Your submission has to follow the theme - every submission is voted on, but there is a tick-box during upload that lets you tick whether you have followed the theme. The winner of the jam will be decided depending on the public vote, and the moderator's vote.

  2. Max 4 people to a team - If your team has more than 4 people you will not be eligible for the prize.

  3. All team members have to respond within 48 hours - A DTJ Mod will reach out to you via Discord or email with details on how to claim your prize after voting has closed.

Discord FAQ:

  1. How do I join the DTJ discord server? You can join the server here.

  2. How do I see more channels in the discord server? You need to assign yourself a role in order to unlock more channels. You can do this via onboarding or in the #get-role channel.

  3. Why can I not choose more than one JammerRole? We have limited dev roles so that is easier for team forming. Please choose a role that displays your strongest discipline. You can express your multidisciplinary experience in the #introductions channel.

  4. How can I form a team in the DTJ Discord? You can use the #looking_for_team or #join_my_team channels to look for teammates.

  5. How do I assign my team to a Team Channel? After assigning yourself a role, you will be able to view the #Team_Assignment channel. Here you can assign yourself to a team 'role' which will place you into a private team channel. Your teammates can then join this channel, as long as they have JammerRole or JammerType set up previously. Individuals found solo camping in team channels will be removed. Team channels are wiped clean after 7 days, so make sure you save your work!

  6. Is there a space for solo jammers? Yes, there is a private text and voice channel for solo devs to gather while a jam is running. The solo dev channel is also wiped clean after 7 days, so make sure you save your work!

DTJ36 FAQ:

  1. Can I submit a game I made previously?  No. You can only submit projects made within the time frame.

  2. Can I make changes during the judging period? No, but you can make changes once the voting period is over.

  3. Do I have to follow the theme? No, but your game will not be eligible for this month's prize. Your game will still be voted on.

  4. Can I use code and assets from my other jam submissions? Yes, as long as you have the rights to use it.  The DTJ 36 hour Jam isn't strict on the "build it from scratch" rule.

  5. Do I have to upload my submission in a particular format? We recommend you upload your game so it is playable in the itch.io web browser. However, a downloadable file also is fine. Some submissions may be bigger than itch.io's 1GB download limit - we recommend linking to a public google driver folder folder to work around this. Any engine is fine to use to create your game.

  6. I couldn't submit on time, what do I do? There is a help section on DTJ discord server called #Jam_Support. Here you can request a late entry link to post your game. Your late submission will not be open to judging.

  7. How does voting work? Voting is open to the public, and to avoid cheating, each voter must vote on 3 randomly selected entries before being free to vote on any more submissions. There is a moderator vote which will determine the overall winner, but this will be heavily influenced by the public vote and the prize-winning rules.
